Great Lakes Outdoors is Nominated for an Emmy

Rob Trott along with co-writer Gary Ewell both from Columbiaville, MI were nominated for a prestigious Emmy Award for their writing of, "A Tribute To Katie", a production of Great Lakes Outdoors Television. The show  aired in September of 2005 on the PBS Network. The nomination took place on May 17, 2006 in Detroit, Michigan.

The episode told the story of the life of Trott's 15 year old Brittany spaniel Katie, shortly after her death in June of 2005.

The Emmy nomination means that the pair is now in the final three for the coveted award in the writing category.

"Katie was my best friend for over 15 years and working on her life story helped the healing process after her passing", stated Trott.

"We were so lucky to have her whole life on video tape as she was a big part of our television show . All three of us literally spent many weeks going over all the tape to cut it down to a 30-minute production. It was a tough job , but one that we all put our heart and soul into and the results speak for themselves. It was the best writing that we have ever done and perhaps the easiest. The words just seemed to flow out of all of us and fell perfectly into place. It was though Katie was there the whole time", Trott said.

"Just to be nominated for an Emmy is a once in a life time event and it makes it extra special because Katie was such a big part of it as she was also my once in a life time special dog", exclaimed Trott.

"We sure hope to come away a winner. But there are absolutely no losers at the Emmy Finals. Everyone who made it this far can be very proud of his or her accomplishments", Ewell said.

Next up is the XXVIII Emmy Awards Ceremony on Saturday June 17th at the Rock Financial Showplace Diamond Center in Novi, Michigan. At this black tie event Trott and Ewell will find out if they have beaten all the odds and walk away with the gold Emmy statute!
